Anger Management:

F
rom the Flames of Anger to Faith in Yourself

Anger and other negative emotions may take on the role of your own unique navigation system for life. In learning to recognise the specific signals your body sends and what suitable action is required - effective communication with your own body's intelligence is established, resulting in increased confidence and well being.

Anger and other negative emotions are a form of stress. And now with scientific proof that stress has a detrimental effect on our immune systems it becomes imperative that we all take more personal responsibility in learning new ways of coping with our internal stress as well as the more widely acknowledged external sources.

“So you ask if emotions are bad. Emotions are not bad. They’re life. They color the richness of our lives. It’s our addiction that’s the problem.

The thing that most people don’t realise is that when they understand that they are addicted to emotions, it’s not just psychological, it’s biochemical.

Think about this.”

Dr Joseph Dispenza - from the recently popular movie, What the Bleep Do We Know!?

.......And What about these?

  • Do you find your relationships are suffering because of uncontrolled anger?
  • Have you ever lost your licence through anger or "road rage"?
  • Is your performance at work being questioned?
  • Are you noticing that friends are making excuses to stay away from you?
  • Have you been served with an Apprehended Violence Order as a result of uncontrolled anger?
  • Has your partner left because of your anger and aggressive behaviour?
  • Is your life out of control?
  • Does your health suffer in any way?
  • Do you find accidents occurring for no apparent reason?
  • Are you carrying tension in your back, shoulders, neck or anywhere else in the body? Indigestion?
  • Do you find it difficult to wait in a queue or at traffic lights?
  • Do you take offence easily?
  • Do you become involved in frequent arguments?
  • Do you find that you are using alcohol or other drugs to calm you down?

If you have answered “yes” to any of these questions, then chances are you would benefit from learning new ways of managing angry feelings.

Medical research at Sydney’s Garvan Institute has now proven that ongoing stress, especially emotional stress has a detrimental effect on the immune system and can even lead to severe depression and cancer.

The research highlights the importance of understanding more about emotional well being and how to manage feelings more effectively and certainly gives meaning to the saying of “prevention is better than cure”.
